Our commitment to the use of cage-free eggs

In 2021, Barceló Hotel Group committed to taking action to ensure that 100% of the eggs used in our hotels would come from cage-free hens by the end of 2025. However, despite our efforts, we will not be able to meet this goal within the initially planned timeframe.

This situation is the result of a combination of factors beyond our control, including:

  • Ongoing shortages of eggs from cage-free systems, which have particularly affected certain markets where we operate.
  • Impacts of bird flu, which has significantly reduced the availability of such products at source.
  • Structural limitations in the supply chain, which have prevented many of our suppliers from guaranteeing a stable, traceable, and competitive supply of cage-free eggs.

Despite these challenges, our commitment remains firm. We continue to work with our suppliers and stakeholders to achieve this objective as soon as possible. We hope that the forthcoming European regulation — originally expected to be introduced in 2025 — will accelerate the transformation of the sector and support the fulfillment of commitments like ours by standardizing production conditions across the supply chain.

At Barceló Hotel Group, we will continue to drive change from our position, promoting a fair transition towards more animal-friendly systems. We appreciate the understanding of our customers and partners, and we reaffirm our intention to keep them informed of our progress throughout this journey.
