Barceló Responsible was created to unify and strengthen sustainability initiatives in all our areas of action. We actively participate in a more sustainable and responsible tourism, we maximise our positive impact on society, we contribute to the development of the local economy and we are committed to the conservation and protection of the environment. In 2011, Barceló Hotel Group signed the World Tourism Organisation's Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, which includes economic, social, cultural and environmental aspects.

Barceló Hotel Group has adhered to the Tourism Sector Code of Conduct for the protection of children and adolescents against sexual exploitation in travel and tourism (ECPAT) since 2007.

Together with other hotel chains, the World Travel & Tourism Council and the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, at Barceló Hotel Group we have worked on a pioneering initiative for the common definition of hotel sustainability criteria and promoting responsible travel and tourism. The Basic Sustainability Framework aims to offer a common starting point for the sustainability of hotels in order to have a positive impact on the planet and people.
